Die Polizei Gifhorn will durch ein Mentoring-Programm dafür sorgen, dass mehr Frauen in Füh-rungsverantwung kommen. Mentoring wurde bereits im Jahr 2001 als Personalentwicklungsin-strument für die Polizei des Landes Niedersachsen eingeführt. Während der Umorganisation der Landespolizei wurde das Programm für zwei Jahre ausgesetzt. In modifizierter Form startete das das Projekt in diesem Jahr dieses Jahres neu.

A British Airways employee who was banned from openly wearing a small Christian cross fought for her job at a meeting with airline management.Nadia Eweida, 55, a check-in worker, spoke of her dismay after managers insisted she remove or cover up her small cross. When Ms Eweida refused she was sent home on unpaid leave.
A female Muslim teacher was suspended by a Dutch school for refusing to shake hands with men. The management at Vader Rijn College asked the Equality Commission to examine the case to confirm whether it had acted correctly. The school teaches pre-vocational secondary education.

The programmes seem to be successful, as approximately a third of their global executives are women and they are looking to increase their numbers at all levels of the organisation.
According to a report by the European Commission, 29 per cent of those employed as researchers are women. In the business and enterprise sector, the number is a dismal 18 per cent. Moreover, women are more likely to work in firms with lower R&D expenditures.
