World Economic Forum publishes report about worldwide gender gap

According to a recent study by The World Economic Forum, men and women are less equal in Switzerland, France and Italy than in countries like Jamaica, Sri Lanka or South Africa. Focussing on female chances in economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, political empowerment and health, the WEF ranked Switzerland 25th, France 70th and Italy 77th in the report. 115 Countries were surveyed.
The Nordic countries ranked at the top of the list: Sweden (1), Norway (2), Finland (3) and Iceland (4). Germany reached 5th place. The Philippines (6) is distinctive as the only Asian country in the top 10. The World Economic Forum concludes that no country in the world has yet reached equality between women and men in critical areas such as economic participation, education and health.
The study shows that the European Union member states perform well in general, but that there are considerable differences in the performance of these countries within the different categories. The United Kingdom, for example, is one of 11 countries that has fully closed the gender gap in education and political empowerment.
