McDonald’s Europe launches McPassport
McDonald’s Europe has launched the most significant private sector initiative to promote European employee mobility with its McPassport. The McPassport, an official certification of the training and skills that employees have acquired while employed by McDonald’s, is designed to support the movement of McDonald’s restaurant employees throughout the European Union. With over 225,000 employees from the 25 Member States eligible for the McPassport, the programme is unprecedented in its scale and ambition. The McPassport will be open to any McDonald’s restaurant employee who wishes to move within the EU and who meets the required performance level. Just like a passport, it provides an official certificate that employees have reached a certain skill level, which means other McDonald’s restaurants can be certain of employee credentials.
Vladimir Spidla, European Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities, stated, “The support from leading companies such as McDonald’s, is crucial to the development of a long-term mobility culture. The Commission can promote policies, but they have to be implemented on the ground.”
