IncludEU: Framing the future European D&I Agenda
Where can D&I managers find long-term reflections, evidence-based input and comprehensive framings for their (future) work? IncludEU offers an advanced training course on ‘building diverse and inclusive workplaces in Europe’
The opening module included an introduction lecture by European D&I Engineer, Michael Stuber, who came to present the what-why-and-how of a future-focused D&I agenda and prepare the ground for the upcoming 20+ lectures until April 2022.
Equality Diversity Equity Inclusion Belonging Intersectionality
In his first section, he engaged the participating D&I managers in creating a structured understanding of how diversity, equity, inclusion and other important paradigms are connected with each other – and with the overall organisational agenda. He not only added historic context but also showed the implications of wide-spread ways to communication D, E or I.
Unconscious Bias Implicit Association Blind Spot Systemic Bias Power Privilege
His second part analysed the different elements of WHY it continues to be important to actively work on DE&I in a variety of organisational areas. Michael showed the combined need to prove the relevance for a given organisation, add a case for action and identify existing gaps that are indicative of persisting biases or other barriers. His key recommendation is to carry out organisation-specific analyses in order to create a meaningful framework for change.
Awareness Experiential Learning Personal Growth Cultural Transformation Organisation Development
As a convinced change strategist, Stuber did not present a top 10 list of most success DE&I programmes but instead provided different models that can effectively assist D&I managers in designing their action plans. From HR and people focused D&I initiatives to embedded leadership approaches and reflection-based cultural change – each element serves an important, and impactful, purpose in the concert of organisation development. To this end, he also linked common D&I activities back to established OD and Cultural Change models.
Setting the tone – Inspiring the group – Encouraging learning
Based on hundreds of educational interventions, Michael motivated the participants to curiously and critically digest the content during the upcoming months. He pointed out the power of supported group learning – across cultures – and the need for everyone to identify their best personal way to grow their knowledge and skills.
The IncludEU Master Programme was hosted by Fondazione Giacomo Brodolini who has been offering the Italian Master in Gender Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Programme https://mastergedm.it/ for already fifteen years.
