Orbit Group scoops Equality & Diversity award
The Orbit Group is celebrating after receiving another award for its Equality & Diversity work. The National Black and New Communities Residents Network (NBNC) have recognised the work carried out by the Orbit Group. It comes after the Group won the Diversity & Race award at this year’s National Housing Federation Neighbourhood Awards. The NBNC, which is a membership organisation promoting the participation and empowerment of those from BME communities and other hard to reach groups, was impressed by the ongoing efforts of staff and residents during Orbit’s in-house Equality & Diversity Month. Nikki Wickham Orbit Group E&D advisor said: „Being nominated by the NBNC is a fantastic achievement. Winning the award and being recognised by an organisation that works on behalf of the communities we work with proves we are on the right track and meeting their needs.“
In its Equality & Diversity Month, staff from across Orbit Group was encouraged to organise events for either colleagues or residents, which addressed a topic of importance to their local area. During this time employees organised or facilitated in events such as: Workshops presented by Somalian resident, Gypsy and traveller presentation, community cohesion seminars, disability awareness trainings, multi-cultural events – celebrating the diversity of different areas, school activity days where children studied African culture and made their own African Khangas, or fair trade events – highlighting the needs of farmers in the developing world.
