BBC executives waive bonuses for failing diversity targets
Executives at BBC have decided to forgo their bonuses because the broadcaster failed to meet their diversity targets it had set for itself in 2004. According to the corporation, the BBC Direction Group had “collectively decided” not to take bonuses valued at about £350,000. The corporation had hoped that by 31 December 2007, the percentage of its black and minority ethnic staff would be at 12.5 percent and 7 percent at senior management. Although progress has been made in the past three years, the specific commitments were not met. Some experts suggest that the move sends out a clear message to the rest of the company, and to other companies that everyone is responsible for metting diversity objectives and that their performance should be measured by diversity-standards.
