Discrimination auditing in Hungary

Together with the Hungarian Equality Authority, the campaign, “For Diversity. Against Discrimination,” organised a workshop to help fight discrimination in the country. In a full day training course, participants from NGOs were taught new methods for auditing recruitment practices of Hungarian companies. Among the lessons learned were an outline of the possibilities the new anti-discrimination law provides in combating discrimination at the workplace, as well as various role-playing games which allowed participants to experience different discriminatory situations.
Hungarian anti-discrimination law now allows qualified testers to scrutinize companies undercover in cases where discriminatory recruitment practices are suspected. People who feel that they have been discriminated against when applying for a job can now turn to the Equality Authority or NGOs working in this field which then send out testers to the suspected company to substantiate the complaint.
