One year of same-sex marriage in the UK
In the beginning of December, gays and lesbians in the United Kingdom celebrated the first anniversary of the „Civil Partnership Act“. For one year, same-sex couples in the U.K. have rights and responsibilities identical to those granted in any civil marriage. They have a range of property rights, the same exemption as married couples on inheritance tax, social security and pension benefits, full life insurance recognition and also the ability to obtain parental responsibility for a partner’s children as well as responsibility for the reasonable maintenance of one’s partner and their children.
