The globalisation of diversity – learning from different heritages
„One of the reasons diversity pioneers invented this concept back in the 1980s was to add a more positive and business-orientated perspective to what had been mainly a legal compliance issue. Consequently, a comprehensive approach was developed into more outward-driven programmes that aimed at supporting business results (“diversity for the bottom line”), beyond reasons of fairness and equality (“doing the right thing”). By the mid- 1990s, Europe inherited this focus from the US, which had already moved the paradigm into mature, business-orientated strategies.“
